one truth and no lies

yesterday, i attended a class, and it was about Hijrah, about how now (and anytime, really) is the best time to change — for the better.

even though the class touched on sins, followed by repentance, and a game plan of how to not come back to the cycle of sin, one thing really stood out for me throughout the class, and that is: being truthful, and honest to yourself.

you know how people always say, ‘be honest’ or ‘tell me the truth’, and look at you right in the eye, and then you really, truly, will be honest? because it triggers something in you when another person looks you squarely in the eye — there is no place to run. (actually this might just be in books, or movies… or it’s just me 😅)

the point is, it’s much easier to be honest with people than yourself. while it’s not the easiest thing to do, sometimes coming clean and telling the truth to people will really ease a burden off your back — no matter how bitter the truth is.

but being honest to yourself is much, much more difficult. because deep down, you already know it, but you make it a choice not to admit it.

we all sin and make mistakes, and we all do it differently. admitting your mistakes and admitting that you are far from perfect is perfectly alright. we are humans — and we are perfectly imperfect just the way we are.
